Ch. 3 - Ethics & Social Responsibility

According to Tesla Motors Inc, "if you really want zero emissions, electric vehicles can be powered from a hundred percent renewable energy. Several Tesla Motors customers have already installed panels through our preferred solar installation partnerSolar City." This helps on reducing our dependence on foreign oil.
Tesla Motors really does has a great corporate socially responsible image. Tesla has several pages on their website with information regarding ethical issues and consumer concerns about their products and company:

  • Tesla Motors and Environmental Benifits (has useful information going in detail on how the benefits of driving an electric car)
  • Tesla Motors Inc FAQs: An electric car is far more efficient than a gasoline car, so the amount of pollution generated by producing the electricity to drive an EV a given distance is much less than the pollution from the gasoline to drive an internal combustion car the same distance. Whereas a combustion engine car – even those powered by hydrogen, ethanol, and biodiesel – can make use of around 20 percent of the energy that it consumes, a battery electric car like the Tesla Roadster is able to put more than 80 percent of the energy it consumes to use in moving the car down the road.

Keeping an Eye on Tomorrow, Today

"It probably comes as no surprise that a forward-thinking company like Tesla Motors thinks a lot about the future. We do.

"That's why the tires and the battery of every Tesla Motors vehicle are recyclable. Reuse is such a key part of our philosophy that we've already arranged to have our car batteries safely recycled — even before we've sold our first car. The cost of recycling is built into the purchase price of the car, so there‘s never a reason “why not” to recycle."

Ch. 2 - Strategic Planning for Competitive Advantage

Elon Musk chairman, architect and CEO of Tesla has been a major factor in the company's strategic planning, including the design, engineering and manufacturing of more and more affordable electric vehicles for mainstream consumers. One of Tesla's stated goals is to increase the number and variety of Electronic Vehicles available to mainstream consumers in three ways:

Tesla sells its own vehicles in a growing number of company owned showrooms and online; it sells patented electric power train components to other automakers so that they may get their own EVs to customers sooner, and it serves as a catalyst and positive example to other automakers, demonstrating that there is pent-up consumer demand for vehicles that are both high-performance and efficient.

Tesla campaigns have worked fa-nominal to set them apart. His marketing plan set themselves apart by other competitors. One of which the company Designs and builds many of the components in its cars, including the power electronics, motor and battery packs. One of the biggest opportunity for the company is now, since the rice of oil and gasoline skyrocketing, making the price for an electric car less of an issue.

CEO Elon Musk won the 2010 Automotive Executive of the Year Innovator Award for hastening the development of electric vehicles throughout the global automotive industry. Tesla has worked together with larger luxury company's some include but not limited to: BMW, Mazda, and Mercedes. Here are some examples below. In later posts we will go into further details.
